It was easy to copy my boot volume from the 1TB hard disk to the Akitio Thunderbolt SSD HD. I did not time the difference, but it is much more than twice as fast to boot, start up, and run programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS6. It takes only a fraction of the time to do these regular operations, and filters on Adobe Photoshop such as "watercolor" or "oil paint" now process almost instantaneously. This is one of the least expensive ways to gain tremendous processing speed, and it is much easier than attempting to install an SSD internally. Wow.
