I ordered and got the samsung blu-ray player and i tested it and it works well with my i5 Mac mini running Mac OS X 10.8.2. I only needed to play in one usb plug.

The drive door problem- you got to close the door and hold it a several seconds for the drive to register that the door is closed.

and NO! You DON'T need to buy Macgo Blu-ray Player for $39. JUST USE VLC PLAYER 2.04 and download 2 files to get your VLC 2.0 to play encrypted blu-ray discs.

You'll need two files: keys database and AACS dynamic library.

here's how you play blu-ray discs on vlc:
1. launch VLC
2. Click File on Menu and select open Disc
3. click open BDMV folder and select the directory in the blu-ray with the BDMV file
4. click open
5. blu-ray movie should be playing at this point.
6. press cmd f for full screen
7. enjoy!
