HP Pavilion p7-1430 Desktop (Black) Review

I purchased this Desktop to replace my 4 year old desktop. My goals with the purchase was to have a PC that could handle Videos and post-processing pictures and accept some parts from my old PC.

What I like:
- Price: Is quite good for the performance. The HP Envy H8-1410 is a little faster but $100 more expensive. As I was going to use my old video card, the speed advantage of the i5 would not be significant as Adobe programs can use the video card processing
-Hard drive: Good storage for the price. Again, I added a cheap SSD for the speed. Adding SSD improves the performance more than a minor step-up in the CPU.
-Memory: came with 2 4GB DIMMs with 2 free slots, making it easier to upgrade (no need to junk any memory)
-Upgradability: the case is uncluttered and easy to reach all the parts. 300W power supply is acceptable.
-Windows 8: Made it a breeze to add memory, video card, network printer, HDTV tuner card, etc. It found all the drivers in the background and quickly. I did not have to reach to any of the DVDs or websites.
-Wireless Keyboard

What I didn't like:
-Wireless Mouse: the batteries will run out quickly. I suggest having a bunch of rechargable batteries readily available or keep a second wired mouse available.
-Windows 8: Even though plug & play worked flawlessly. It was quite hard to figure out where the stuff like control panel was. Also it works best with a touchscreen. Fortunately, I had one available so I just switched the monitors but I went from a 27 inch to a 21.5 inch in the process (I may try to see if I can clean the desktop space and keep both...)
-New password system. But this is an issue with Windows 8 and not the PC.

I was affraid because of the previous negative reviews, but they did not seem to be really related to the hardware. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. The trick is not getting intimidated by the changes in the Windows 8. But take some time to figure out the changes and customize the "desktop" with the apps you use the most (many are available but you have to pin them as well as unpin the junk). It was the best performance/value ratio for me (cheaper models were too slow, AMD A8 use 100W so it is harder to add additional drives, crads, etc).

Final disclaimer. If you don't plan to add anything to the machine and can afford additional $100 consider going with the Intel Core i5 version that is faster, particularly for Photoshop and video (intel i5/i7 handle media better than AMD cpus).

UPDATE:
Few Minor issues:
1) I am using SandDisk ReadyCache and not a regular SSD. It looks like putting a regular SSD in this machine can be complicated. ReadyCache works fine.
2) There are only 4 power cables for the drives (2 by 2) and the second ones is very close to the first ones. My original plan was to install ReadyCache and an additional HD (I had a 1.5GB laying around) but due to power cable for now I installed a Bluray Drive that I do not really use. I am going to try to get a power cable extender.
3) Windows 8 does not come with Media Center (only Windows 8 pro) not allowing me to use my TV card fully. So it was cheaper for me to order a DVD for my old Video card with their full program ($9.95 vs $69.95 to upgrade to Win 8 Pro). My remote control still works but cannot watch TV without Media Center or Hauppage full program
