I received this case as a gift in the color I requested (Distressed Brown.) I just love the idea of pulling this case out, it looking like some antique book or planner, and then BAM it unfolds into an iPad case with Bluetooth Keyboard. I'm typing on it right now (for the second time because Safari crashed on me...grrr.) I'm writing this in Notes first this time...

Set-up
The keyboard in the case came charged, although to what extent I am not sure. I turned it on by sliding the on/off slider (top on the keyboard's right side) forward and then hit the "Connect" button at the keyboard face's top-right. I then went into iPad's Settings>Bluetooth and selected the keyboard (aka only active) option and was told to type in a 4 digit code into the keyboard. I did that. The iPad recognized the keyboard and has ever since without any further set-up

Cons

-The case is a bit heavy--okay, pretty heavy. This is obviously due to the case's durable construction. The keyboard is ultra light and, while this is good thing, it does mean that the case isn't significantly lighter if you were to remove it for traveling purposes.

-This is probably a bit unfair and also uncharitable, but I don't like that there is hold cut out for the built-in camera in iPad 2s and 3s (I refuse to call it The New iPad.) I have an iPad 1 and it fits (snugly) into the case. It took about a day or so for the case to relax enough that the case closed easily and for the magnetic flap to hold very securely into place.

-With the keyboard in its normal position, the iPad section propped up behind it sits very vertical. On a flat, level surface this shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, the iPad might get knocked over if you tap on it too hard. This shouldn't be too huge an issue because the case can be moved around in a multitude of ways (see below.)

-The keyboard doesn't have the autocorrect feature when typing. I personally like this because I think having to constantly tap the screen to tell the iPad "...no..." or go back after you realized you did not type "bowman" would be cumbersome, but YMMV.

Pros

-The leather is luxurious. I feel like I can take this anywhere, from the bedroom to the boardroom.

-The case is sturdy. Note that the case's short sides extend about half an inch past the iPad's and the construction is stiff without feeling overly rigid. While some people may feel insecure about the case's short sides being exposed, I'm pretty sure this case will protect your iPad short of you dropping the case onto an upturned guillotine blade, that is shorter than the case's short side, at the right (or wrong) angle. Even then, the internal sleeve in which the iPad rests, which is some sort of rubber (?) coated silicone (?), would take the brunt of the punishment.

-The case is versatile. The keyboard is secured to the case via four strong magnets at the four corners. The magnets are strong enough to keep the keyboard in case even in the face of vigorous typing, but not so much that it's a pain to remove the keyboard when necessary. There are another two magnets in the flap of the case that holds it shut when closed. You can move the keyboard such that it's top two magnets stick to where the bottom two normally stick and the bottom two of the keyboard now stick to the two in the flap. This allows the iPad part to snuggle down behind the keyboard at a much more natural viewing angle, especially when on your lap. The keyboard lies about half an inch forward of the case's flap in this position so it's a pretty sturdy surface on which to type. This is my preferred position; you can even carry it around in this position by grabbing with your thumb on top of where the keyboard would normally lay and fingers underneath the case. The keyboard and magnets holds the flap flat out in this position. You can also just line up the top two magnets of the keyboard with just the case's flap magnets so the keyboard rests partially on whatever surface you're working on, but still have it held in place so it doesn't slide around. Finally, the keyboard can obviously be removed completely and used that way. For simple tablet use, keep the keyboard where it normally is, fold the flap over it, and then fold the iPad section on top of this. You can hold the case at the top corners like you're playing a hand-held gaming system in this position and move around. Alternatively, one hand it by laying the case on your forearm and grip the front edge of the case with your palm up hand.

-The lining of the case is some sort of rubbery, grippy material and this is a welcome feature. There are no grooves for the iPad to rest in different viewing angles. Instead, I've found the iPad can be positioned at virtually any viewing angle because friction keeps it in place. This is fantastic. Tapping on the iPad only makes it settle into its position more. Even fairly firm tapping from the back of the iPad while in the internal sleeve won't make it slip. Glorious.

-The keyboard is hard and its keys are also. It is, understandably, a bit small, but the keys and spacing are still noticeably larger and more comfortable than the one on a 10 inch netbook I have. I've heard that the previous incarnation of this case didn't have a shift key on the right side; this version does. It also has a ".com" key, a lower brightness key, increase brightness key, a key to call up the iPad's innate keyboard, a key to bring you to the "search iPad" screen, normal movie player buttons, and a button that seems to toggle between whatever app you're using and any saved screenshots.

On a single, 4-5 hour charge, I've heard this can last 90+ hours. Many people have reported only needing to charge this once every few weeks. I haven't had to charge since getting it last week. It saves energy by turning off when idle for over a minute or so; just tap a key to awaken it. It takes a few seconds for it to connect to the iPad when first turned on. It's great--I shudder at the thought of writing this review on the touch screen keyboard. This also frees up a lot of screen real estate. A contextual bar shows up at the bottom of the screen at times when the keyboard is active. For example, right now I have one with "Previous", "Next" and "Autofill" buttons that help me naviagte the fields of this web page more easily.

Conclusion

Even when considering the cons, the pros just outweigh them. I know that there are a lot of new cases for iPad 2 & 3 that I haven't tried, so I can't speak to this case's suitability for those versions. However, if you have an iPad 1 and if you don't mind a heavier case for increased functionality in the keyboard and uber style points for the leather, this is the one to get, especially since it will fit other existing models if you decide to upgrade.
