Product Description

The CubiQ CS1644 DVI Dual View KVMP Switch adds a new dimension to DVI KVMs by incorporating dual monitor support and an LED Status panel for a clear, simple method to select and monitor the advanced switching features of the KVM. Now you can extend your desktop across two 2560x1600 Dual link monitors, making it ideal for graphic designers, banking and finance consultants, medical applications, and gaming. The CS1644 s independent (asynchronous) switching feature allows the KVM, USB ports, and audio to focus on different ports simultaneously. In order to simplify source identification, and manual port selection, the Status Panel has been expanded by the addition of LCDs that illuminate, to clearly indicate the feature selected, and the port to which it is connected. Other major features of the CubiQ include Video DynaSync, which ensures proper resolution and refresh rate when booting or switching computers. Mouse emulation maybe disabled to allow full functionality for programmable mice, and USB 2.0 peripheral sharing ports to share printers, and other external devices. The CS1644 supports digital video I.E. flat panel displays, data projectors, plasma displays, digital TVs and set-top boxes. Switching is accomplished by one of two methods: Hotkeys (you don t have to take your fingers off the keyboard), or front panel push buttons. Easy install and set up, simply connect the CS1644 between your computers, monitor, mouse and keyboard. Connect your microphone, speakers, and peripheral devices. No software to install, no configuration routines. Since the keyboard communicates directly with the KVM it will work with multiple computing platforms (PC (x86/x64), Macintosh PowerPC, and Sun Microsystems (Sparc)

ATEN 4-Port Dual Video Dual Link DVI KVMP Switch with Audio Support and cables CS1644 (Black) Review

I've been down the road with KVM switches more times than I care to remember. There was always something that didn't work right. ATEN's CS1644 is the first one that I've had that really does the job. I've set up 3 Macs (an old G4, a more recent G5 and a brand new 12-Core Mac Pro) with 2 monitors (30" and 23" Apple Cinema Displays). Everything looks exactly the way it's supposed to.

I use Logitech G19 and G13 "Game Controllers" as keyboards and a Logitech MX Revolution Mouse. I do not use them for gaming, rather for their extra function keys and extra mouse buttons. These controllers, which are not supported by ATEN also worked perfectly in almost every respect. The only exception being: To switch systems it's not possible to use the keyboard shortcuts that ATEN provides (for normal Mac or PC keyboards). However, tech support provided me with a very easy work-around to this. I simply connected up an extra Mac keyboard that accepts the switching commands. In fact, the only reason I did this is because my CPUs are in a different room from my keyboards and monitors and I wanted to avoid having to walk into the other room just to switch systems. If you locate the CS1644 control unit close to your work area the extra keyboard solution that I use wouldn't be necessary. You could just push the buttons on the control unit. This whole issue is a very minor one considering the excellent performance of the unit.

System switch-overs are quick. No time lag at all. Even with the Logitech Keyboards & Mouse everything works. I can type as fast as ever, function keys work properly. I use QuicKeys and all the key assignments work properly. There is nothing else to say. A totally transparent system!

One last comment about ATEN's Tech support. I called their toll-free number & within a minute was on the line with a knowledgeable, patient, courteous tech who figured out the (above) keyboard solution quickly.

The CS1644 "ain't cheap," but it also ain't a cheapo product and you get your money's worth. The unit's got some weight to it so when all the cables are hooked up it doesn't tip over. Speaking of cables: the ones provided are high quality & of reasonable length (at least for my setup). Even the packaging & shipping box are first class. The whole thing set up quickly with no fuss. So, the bottom line is: If you really need to be able to switch between 2, 3 or 4 systems - using 2 large monitors - this one is definitely one to put high up on the list. Bravo ATEN!
