I was planning on using these on some flights later on, and liked the idea of the 3D capability. Unfortunately, there are a lot of drawbacks to this device that really bring it down to the $100-value level at best. (For the record, this was around $300 when I got it.)

VR works fine... won't say much else about it, though. Not much application for it yet. May update when I've had a little more experience with it.

These fit on your head nicely, and can even be used as a second, higher head-mounted screen above your laptop screen as it sits on your lap. But read into the manufacturer's claims; it gives the perceived screen size at some large number (e.g., 60-in diagonal screen) at 10 feet distance. This means two things: The screen actually looks a lot smaller than the number they give, and you'll have trouble seeing details as if the screen was *really 10 feet away!* This means that if you have to wear glasses like I do because of nearsightedness, these really aren't going to work so well for you. My glasses really don't fit well under these, and tend to mess up the 3D effect in addition.

The 3D capabilities: Yes, they work. But it is anything but High-Def 3D (for the record, they never made a claim that it was). This is also at a 4:3 (standard VGA, not widescreen) resolution that will not be able to exceed 1024x768... which by today's standards is quite low... and from ten feet away is sort of insufficient. Frankly, I recently got a real 3D computer monitor, a Passive 3D LED one that cost a lot less than this thing, and it works a heck of a lot better (and is much larger, HD 1080P, etc.)

Also, no part of this thing is wireless... (again, it was never advertised as wireless; just bringing it to light). It is more or less tethered to your machine by a slightly short cable, which I've found to be cumbersome and a bit in-the-way.

Cool gadget, yes. But unless you simply have $300 for a novelty item, I'd spend the cash on a real monitor upgrade. Perhaps the 1200 model is a lot better than this (claims to be HD, 720(?) and widescreen), but is just ridiculously expensive. They really ought to bring the price on these down... at current, they are too pricey for what you'll get.

Lexmark X464DE Multifuntion Printer (13C1101) Review

Arrived by FedEx in a few days. When I opened it, I saw the back panel partially opened and one of the hinges popped off. I was able to pop the hinge back in. This led me to believe FedEx somehow mishandled the box. So I set it up and connect to my network on Friday evening, but the ADF sensor is malfunctioning, probably from the mishandling during transport.

I call Lexmark on Saturday, and they set me up with a technician, who came and replaced the sensor on Tuesday. Sometimes, there is a bit of waiting on the phone, but you get through quickly most of the time, and you get to speak with a well-spoken rep. No strange accents, good professional English. So 5 stars for excellent customer service.

Now I also had trouble setting up the Scan-to-eMail and Scan-to-FTP functions on the network. This printer isn't that easy to configure and it will require some networking know-hows.

I've a Windows SBS 2011 network with both Macs and PCs. My tech support rep was very knowledgeable, professional, and used perfect English. She connected directly to a Mac client on my network, controlled the both the Mac and the Lexmark printer panel remotely (it was almost futuristic, because I can see her controlling and configuring the printer on the printer's large touchscreen). After fixing my SMTP configuration, she even went to troubleshoot my NAS (network attached storage) FTP server. She opened up Mac/UNIX terminals and entered a bunch of UNIX commands, and even figured out the problem on my Netgear ReadyNAS, which is an non-Lexmark equipment. I'm speechless. 5++ stars for technical support.

I'm so glad that I chose Lexmark. The touchscreen is responsive, informative, and makes everything much easier to use. It is a beautiful looking machine as well. I really like this printer. I don't think you'll regret it if you went with this.

Purchased this system to use as a visitor log and to generate badges. The system is very simple to set up and the labels are easy to format; your own logo can be added to the badges also. The software does have some drawbacks - it does not automatically calculate the check-in time when you generate the badge; however, it does calculate the sign out time. Also, there is no way to edit the log in case you mispell; you must sign the visitor out and then back in. This creates two records in the visitor log. The reports are very, very basic - i.e. an emergency report that shows all visitors currently present, and a "visitor log" that can be exported to Excel for editing and printing. However, "deleted" records are not really deleted; they still appear on the log. If you are looking for a very basic visitor log and badge generation, this system is cheap and easy. We purchased these units to put into place 3 workstations in a project management area which had some ANCIENT hardware (think 2003 people). I installed the units without issue (warning it REQUIRES 2 USB cables, not just ethernet cables, so I had to go buy those). The software installed on one of workstations without issue (Win7), though I would recommend downloading the newer vShere (v7) as it seems to be more stable. Connecting them up was simple, minimal changes on the workstation needed except to create user accounts. So far the employees have no issues except to complain it won't stream from YouTube cleanly. I have seen it myself, it starts perfect, but about 10 to 15 seconds in it lags and then the video on the screen flickers badly. I have checked all the settings and it's set to the recommended configuration... and it's not the workstation (Intel i7-quad 3.2GHz with everything in the office on Gig and Cat6). Everything else runs smooth as silk (Office, accounting apps, browser (sans video), even Pandora). For the money they're brilliant and a great cost effective way to expand a network without spending a ton on workstations. I'm knocking a star just because of the few minor hiccups during the install and the fact they show it on the site streaming multiple videos but in real world we can't seem to pull it off.
