I had the benefit of feedback from the various marketing and technical folks about how to tweak the various solutions to maximize performance.

In this case, I had 4.6TB of home HD videos which I have never edited (because it takes too long after I bother to import them). I also have 1+ GB of photos my wife has taken.

The only thing I can say is - after reconfiguring the device from the factory RAID5 default to RAID0 using the provided SW (since I already have a RAID5 NAS backup device) - its an amazing device. File-copy over my 1Gbps network backbone is 1Gbps (125 MB/sec). And opening a 700MB movie for editing is instantaneous.

If you edit video or other multi-megabyte multi-media, this thing will save you months if not years of your life. (Although iMovie still takes a while to move files from a local HDD to the external drive).

Otherwise, the device is quiet and easy to configure. Plug and go - although you do need to update the Lion OS with the latest patches, and if you also have a Thunderbolt display need to pay attention to the daisy-chain order (the included instructions are very good).

The RAID5 raid did take 10+ hours to configure, which was a waste after I asked my co-workers about what option to use for peak-performance - RAID0.
