ASUS CM1435-US003S Desktop (Grey) Review

I build my own computers, and I had moved into a new home to find that my computer did not survive the move. The motherboard had gone bad, and while it wasn't a result of the move, it was made clear after the move.

I plan to build another computer, but for the time being I just wanted something I could start up out of the box. I was amazed to find this product at this price. I've always trusted ASUS products, and this one does nothing but strengthen my beliefs in the company.

The tower is rather nice & compact. It is also relative light (especially in comparison to my self-built PC). The machine comes with a USB keyboard, and USB mouse from ASUS. The mouse has a track ball (I'm not sure if you can get away with a non-track ball mouse these days). The product was incredibly easy to set up, and get started up for the first time. Windows 8 (while I had my doubts) is actually very user friendly. It will take a little getting use to as it is a bit different from Windows 7 in some ways, but I am impressed how quickly the operating system starts up when turned on (after the machine is set up). There is a very helpful tutorial that runs for users to customize, and set the computer up upon turning it on for the first time.

The machine runs super quiet. If I didn't know that I turned it on I wouldn't know from the sound of it. Upon closer inspection under the hood of this beauty it is discovered that there is only 1 fan (2 if you include the one on the power supply) that is connected to the heat sync for the processor. There is only 1 more slot to insert memory on this machine, and I plan to throw in another stick of 4 GB (this is something I don't consider a must for everyone, but I do a bit more advanced things that will require the extra memory). The memory is from a company called AData. The hard drive is a Seagate, which is fine by me as I have a few of their hard drives with no complaints thus far after 3+ years with a couple. I was able to install a second hard drive in the machine, but I had to remove the CPU fan, and pry it in a bit.

Although the machine only has 1 fan it does not run hot at all. One draw back for those of you that think you want to stick a bunch of stuff in this machine, the power supply is a standard 350 watt unit.

All-in-all this product is well built, quiet, and very affordable. It is a very good mid-grade machine as far as power goes. I would not recommend opening up the machine unless you know what you are doing as it will void any warranty you have left on it. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a good deal on a new desktop.
