Kingston Technology 24 GB Kit (3x8 GB Modules) 1333MHz DDR3 PC3-10600 240-Pin Reg ECC DIMM for Select HP/Compaq Servers KTH-PL313K3/24G Review

I purchased this to add RAM memory to a Dell workstation. It installed very easily, was immediately recognized by Windows, and works fine. Typical of Kingston memory products.

Of course, before purchasing make sure that your PC uses this type of memory - 1333 MHz DDR3 PC3. If in doubt, check your owners manual about memory upgrades or the memory compatibility guide on Kingston's website.

Don't worry that you're installing an odd number of RAM modules. DDR3 does not have to be installed in pairs as did earlier RAM.

BUFFALO MiniStation Extreme 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - HD-PZ1U3R Red Review

This is not the buffalo quality I expect and their warranty is questionable, espeically for their high end Extreme Ministation USB3 product. I purchased this product new on January 8 2012, used it without issues for 3 months, took it on my extended vaction and when I got there I set up the same laptop I always used it with, plugged in the units USB cable and nothing! Its built in light did not light and its harddrive did not make a sound; not a good sign. I plugged in another very old ministation and everything worked fine. Both ministations were backed side-by-side in the same case logic hardsided storage container. I tried everything I could to make it even light, to no avail. I then called their Tech support and was told they would send me a new one through their Warranty RMA procedure. Step 1 requires that I send them a copy of my purchase order - how many people carry a copy of their proof of purchase order with them when they go on vacation? I certainly do not and without it I am dead in the water. In the meantime I read through their "Advance Replacement Warranty agreement, which they require you to agree to before anything happens. To start with they require a payment of $30 as a non-refundable processing and handling fee!!! In addition on the second page of the Agreement they state that you will receive a REFURBISHED unit as a replacement unit! What are they thinking? I carefully made my original purchase decision based on the EXTREME PROECTION offered by this device and I expected far better reliability and performance than I received from this unit. I guess this is what they consider EXTREME ... you get to pay $30 for a processing fee to get a refurbished Warranty replacement unit for a 3 month old NEW device covered by their 3 year warranty. Suffice it to say I am very disappointed with both this Company's policies and the total lack of dependability I received from this unit, plus of course I lose all my important data saved on this device, not to mention the hassel they put you through with their "3 year Warranty" program policies. This will be an on=going process for me and I am not even sure I want to play their game when their best EXTREME product leads you to where I am now at. I only wish I would have known what I am now involved in Before I ever made this purchase!

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 OC 2 GB GDDR5 DVI-I/DVI-D/HDMI/Display port PCI-Express 3.0 Graphics Card (GV-N680OC-2GD) Review

So I'm upgrading from my old stock EVGA GTX 260 and I have to say the difference between the two is staggering. The Gigabyte GTX 680 is quieter, cooler, more energy efficient and powerful compared to my old GTX 260.

There were many other brands to choose from, but I went with Gigabyte for three reasons. Smaller size as compared to the large ASUS DCII OC 680, the memory chips have heat sinks attach to them that allows direct cooling and their Ultra Durability technology.

I initially bought the ASUS DCII OC 680 card, but later return it because I was having issues with the size of the card as it was interfering with adjacent cards. The ASUS DCII OC 680 did run cooler due to their larger fins to dissapate heat better (8 degrees cooler). The noise level for both Gigabyte and ASUS 680 seems about the same to me, I can't hear them all when playing games. Gigabyte's WindoForce 3x cooling Technology sounds like a good idea, but I don't see it being very effective versus ASUS humongous heatsinks fins. If maybe Gigabyte include larger heatsink fins along with their WindoForce tech then maybe it'll be even better at cooling. My idle tempterature is at 28C while when stress testing with Uningine Heaven it was 69C.

The real main reason why I choose Gigabytes card over most of the others is that they have actually heatsinks attach to the memory chips to allow for direct cooling compared to the ASUS DCII OC where it only relies on the active fans above the heatsink to cool the memory chips.

Lastly, I want my card to last a long time and be tough because I am overclocking it pretty hard plus I don't really plan on buying another card for good long time. Gigabyte's Ultra Durable technology is what exactly what I am looking for so I went with it.

The only game I have in my possession that is graphically intensive is Splinter Cell: Conviction. I set all the graphic settings to high and the game ran smoothly with my new Gigabyte GTX 680 at 112FPS. Temperature was at 58C for the most part when I was playing the game for an hour.

******Misc Information******
While the ASUS DCII OC card that I once had did run cooler than the Gigabyte one, it wasn't very overclock-able. With the ASUS card I was able to overclock it to 1224mhz for the core and 3200mhz for the memory. The Gigabyte card, I could overclock it to 1280mhz for the core and 3524mhz for the memory.

Gigabyte's WindForce 3x by design blows hot air into the case, FYI so make sure you get a case with good air flow.

********Update 06/22/2012********
I decided take apart my new card and apply some aftermarket thermal paste on it to see if it will lower the temperatures even further. Upon removing the heatsink off the card, I found that Gigabyte did a ok job on the application on the paste however, IMO, they still added too much. I used some electronic safe alchohol to clean off the OEM paste stuck on the heatsink and GPU until it was mirror clean. I bought the Arctic MX4 thermal paste and applied it ever so carefully and evenly. I then ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark for 1 hour and this is what I got.

***OEM Paste***
Idle Temp: 28C
Full Load (Unigine Heaven Benchmark, Max Settings): 69C

***Aftermarket Paste (Artic MX4)***
Idle Temp: 28C
Full Load (Unigine Heaven Benchmark, Max Settings): 66C

iBuyPower GAMER POWER AM799 Desktop (Red) Review

I shouldn't call it tiny, despite still containing such near-godlike computational ability within its mere metallic confines. I won't lie; the bright, shiny red case dominates any view of my game room. I need to buy a new desk to accommodate its girth. At the moment it's hanging about four inches over the front of this desk, making it easily and by far the largest computer anyone in my family has owned in the last twenty years.

I'm actually quite proud of this guy. Its monolithic stature and commanding red color seem a little needless, but to my knowledge there are just no games out (or coming out) that will trouble this fellow. Need a quarter for the bus? Better not ask this guy, he looks -mean-. That said, the stats of this particular machine should speak for itself. Third generation Core i7? XFX Radeon HD 7770 1GB? 8GB DDR3-1333? Sign me up, please. The price that I paid made me jump at the chance to bring this gentleman home and introduce him to the family. Meet the parents. Fall in love. Play XCOM and Black Ops 2 together night after sleepless night. Get drunk and have a fist fight at 4 AM, because he found out from my HDTV that I still have feelings for my old computer. He didn't mean to beat me up, he just doesn't know his own strength...you don't know him like I do!

All joking aside, this computer is a solid gaming setup that will work for you right out of the box. No need for upgrades; the graphics card cooks playing any game I currently own and the box has ample data storage and physical memory. Still comes with an optical drive in case you're an old man like me and still have games on discs that you might still play. Maybe.

Any cons at all? Comes with Windows 8. I can't say enough bad things about the Metro interface. If I feel like I am done saying enough bad things about the Metro interface and any and all of the "Apps" I have tried out (Admittedly, not many. It feels like trading a multitasking Windows XP interface for unitasking MSDOS program with the keyboard unplugged.), I will stop and think of something new to complain about, because that's how abysmally and incredibly bad it is. Microsoft tasked itself with reinventing the wheel and it did so by replacing each of the four individual wheels on its operating system with a unique, obtuse, and asinine shape that does not promote rolling. Maybe sliding, since that's the only way to interact with some of these incredibly poorly designed "Apps". Luckily, the majority of your interactions will not involve the Metro interface, but it's still just there, like a piece of cardboard stapled over the hole where Microsoft gouged out the "Start" button, but couldn't for the life of them think of anything else to put in there.

It also ships with a keyboard that I wanted to use, but had to pack back up in the box because it has a backslash key that was positioned by a pure contrarian with little regard to their fellow human beings who might actually use said backslash key in the course of normal typing. It ships with a wired mouse too, it's a bit chintzy but does the job. Good thing I already had one (who doesn't) and wasn't even considering that one would come with the machine. Last tiny gripe, the top panel of the otherwise magnificent case is a snap-on plastic piece, and it can hardly be described as "secured" in any fashion to the rest of that said case when any force is applied to it.

In summary, I am happy with my purchase and find it difficult not to recommend it to others in the most explicit of terms.
