The Union Street Camera/Laptop Bag is a work of art designed by ONA, a camera bag designer that handcrafts many leather and waxed canvas bags. Their products run expensive, but also exhibit very, very high quality. This bag is intended for the urbanite who needs to carry both a camera and a laptop as well as a few small personal items.I bought this bag six months ago and it still serves me well. There is enough space inside the computer pocket for a 13" Macbook Pro, easily, and it is padded so well that your computer will be snug and secure. Large computers, like old style Dell's or Toshiba's or really anything that doesn't sport slim-form-factors like Macs will most likely feel a little bulky and wrong in the bag, though, again, this depends on your computer: a 13" or 14" will do far better than a 15.6", a skinny computer will do far better than a thicker computer of any screen size.
In front of the computer pocket space (which can be removed if you don't wish to take your computer with you, just as all the other dividers can be removed) there is room for cameras and lenses. When dismantled, a camera body and the lenses should fit snugly even with a computer inside the bag, and the customizable dividers will stick to the inside of the bag and keep everything perfectly in place. The setup will most likely be tight though, and you may want to loosen the straps/buckle by one stop in order to fit everything, especially if you plan on cramming other items: books, water bottle, etc.
As a college student, I carry my Macbook Pro, as well as a water bottle (with one divider set in next to it) and some notebooks and small class books inside. Textbooks are fine with this bag, but likely only one fat textbook at a time. I use a high quality backpack for days when I need to carry more large items; however, on the typical day, all I really need is a small messenger that can fit my computer, a camera and just one lens, a water bottle, some reading material, and some cables/accessories.
The front pocket is excellently designed (zipper enclosed) and stores memory cards, external hard drives (they slip in perfectly into the hard drive spaces) and cell phones (my iPhone with a case also fits perfectly into aforementioned hard drive space). Pen/pencil holders are also present. Everything fits together snugly, and the space in front of the tiny pockets within the front pocket is also useful: I can store a thin book in there, or cables and connections, gum/candy, notepads, cards, etc.
There is also a thin back pocket with a magnetic closure (it snaps closed when no force is applied). It works well with storing folders (especially standard American letter paper folders, which just barely won't fit inside the bag) or an iPad, or a magazine. When I'm on the move and don't feel like quickly unclasping the bag to access the interiors and pockets, I just slip whatever papers I have in my hand, or airplane tickets, or receipts, etc, right into the back pocket, as I move.
The waxed canvas is high quality, and while it will show small signs of wear (soft nicks and imperfections) these really actually increase the sophistication of the bag and the semi vintage feel. This bag is both modern and classic: only essential/useful details are added, and the bag is simple, no annoying logos or lines or awkward stitching. However, the look of the straps and the handles/shoulder strap all have a classic feel to them (the straps hide the buckles underneath, providing a complex old-style look with a practical, easy to open/close functionality). The straps, handles, buckles, pockets, all show no signs of wear or giving in. The bag has a subtle smooth-and-flat leather base, so unlike most messenger bags, this one actually stands upright on its own. The bag is very resistant to weather, and the small tuck of extra material that falls inwards when the bag is closed prevents precipitation from snaking its way in.
In sum: this bag is absolutely excellent. It's practical, functional, and very durable. On top of the ease-of-use the bag looks professional and amazing, and will garner compliments every time you wear it (it definitely has for me). It's formal and high-end enough to take to a business meeting, and yet stylish enough for a stereotypical hipster working/reading at a table in a coffee shop (I often find myself in both types of situations). Out of all the messenger bags I looked through across the internet in my search, I couldn't find any other bags that avoided looking silly, tacky, bright colored, unnecessarily detailed, childish, flimsy, weak, clunky, or just downright impractical. This bag succeeds in avoiding all of those pitfalls, being subtle and elegant and excellently designed and practical all at once. I would buy this bag again in a heartbeat, and if I can save up the money, I will definitely consider gifting it to close friends of mine: it's that good.
