Product Description

This all-in-one HDMI extender not only handles high-speed 1080p HDMI video, but it also transmits the IR signal and your Ethernet over a single Cat5e/Cat6 cable at distances up to 100 meters (328 feet)!

This HDMI extender produces 10.2Gbps throughput over a single Cat5e/Cat6 cable. It supports 3D video modes and high-resolution audio, such as DTS Digital, Dolby Digital, DTS-HD Master Audio, and Dolby TrueHD. It also includes an IR back-channel, so you can control your equipment from the destination room.

The HDMI Sender and Receiver units each feature a three-port Ethernet hub. Connect a cable from your wired router to one of the hub ports and the other five can be used to connect PCs and other internet capable devices. The Ethernet signal can be transmitted at a full 100 Mbps alongside the HDMI and IR signals.

The Sender and Receiver units can be fixed to a flat surface (wall, table, inside a cabinet, etc.) using the included L brackets (4 each) and screws (8 each, 2 per bracket). Screws or bolts needed to fix the brackets to your surface are not included. Both the Sender and Receiver require 5 VDC power and a pair of AC Adapters are included.

There simply is no better way to extend your high-speed 3D HDMI signal over long distances. With the inclusion of IR and Ethernet support, this unit give you a flexibility and capabilities that have been previously unavailable!

Features:
* Enables HDMI 10.2 Gbps and 100 Mbps Ethernet in parallel over a single 100m Cat5e/6 cable
* 340 MHz/3.4 Gbps per channel (10.2 Gbps all channel) bandwidth
* 1080p / 60 Hz with 48-bit pixels
* Supports 3D
* Three standard Ethernet ports with switching capabilities on each unit
* Built-in single-band IR extender function

Monoprice HDMI w/Ethernet & IR Extender Over Cat5e/Cat6 Cable - Extend up to 328ft Review

I purchased three sets of these for a customer of mine. We had rewired his entire home with Cat6 with four cables to each room. I originally thought I would have to use two cables (one send / one receive) until I ran across this unit. While pricey, the unit performs extremely well and my customer is very satisfied with the response time and video clarity. That said, there are a few things that could be improved. See the scenario below.

We've mounted all of the video receivers/DVR/cable boxes in the basement and he only has a remote control and TV with a corresponding Monoprice box upstairs. All of our runs are under 300 ft. so there's been no problem keeping to their standard. We ran over 1,000 ft of cable and fortunately it was marked with the footage along it's entire length so I know what the cable lengths are to the nearest foot.

A side by side test (using HDMI-1 and HDMI-2 inputs on the same HD display) showed there was no image degradation between the HDMI cable direct and the Monoprice extension. That test was run over at least 280 ft. of Cat6. To run this test, I patched two cable pairs together upstairs which ran the signal from the cable box in the basement upstairs through the patch connection and back downstairs to the HD Display.

I had only two complaints:

1. The IR emitters are very large (think PC mouse approximately 1.5 x 2.0"), very directional and take up quite a bit of space in front of each cable box. The cable boxes are stacked so getting the correct IR "mouse" to point at the correct box was initially a bit of a problem. I may replace them with small button emitter Channel Vision IR-3001 Single IR Emitter with Confirmation LED at a later date if they continue to move out of alignment. The IR receivers are the same size but I was able to mount them to the underside edge of the HD Display using double sided foam tape.

My preference would have been able to take the IR-Out from the Monoprice box and put it into the cable box IR-In with a converter cable - eliminating the need for an IR emitter and all of the alignment issues. I contacted Monoprice for their specs and talked with their tech folks however they have have not been able to get them to me. Running the cable without the converter might fry the cable box depending on the IR frequency and voltage used between the cable box and the Monoprice box.

2. The Cat6 cable between the boxes must be connected with crossover cable - the boxes are not smart enough to change their send/receive signals on a straight through cable. (ie. T568A on one end and T568B on the other).

Other than that, the boxes have worked flawlessly for the past two months.
