Product Description

The 4-port USB 2.0 Mini DisplayPort Dual View KVMP Switch, GCS1924, charts a revolutionary new direction in KVM switch functionality by combining a 4-port Mini DisplayPort dual view switch with a 2-port USB 2.0 hub. As a KVM switch the 4-port USB2.0 Mini DisplayPort Dual View KVMP Switch allows users to access 4 computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and dual-view Mini-DisplayPort console monitors. The built in USB 2.0 hub allows each computer to access connected peripherals on a one-computer-at-a-time basis. GCS1924 s independent switching feature allows the KVM focus to be on one computer while the USB peripheral focus is on another. This eliminates the need to purchase a separate USB hub as well as the need to purchase separate stand-alone peripheral sharing switch. GCS1924 further improve on previous KVM designs with latest Mini-DisplayPort and Mini-TOSLINK connectors. It provides the capability of digital video & audio to the computers with ultra high resolution up to 3840x2400, or a 3D display 1920x1080 resolution at 120Hz, and vivid picture quality and a surround sound SPDIF connection. GCS1924 is designed with the same footprint as the new Mac Mini, so you can stack 4 Mac Mini directly on top of GCS1924, saving precious desk space. Features: IOGEAR's DynaSync reads and remembers the monitor's parameters (EDID) so there is no delay or change of video resolution when switching between, or booting computers Port switching made easy with front-panel touch pad, hotkeys or USB mouse. Asynchronous hotkey switching between KVM focus, USB peripheral, and audio ports. Mini DisplayPort 1.1a & HDCP compatible. Complete keyboard and mouse emulation for error free booting and real-time switching. Front USB port designed for charging smart phones and smart tablets IOGEAR s DynaSync provides the EDID support for Windows 7

IOGEAR 4-port DualView Mini DisplayPort KVMP Switch with Peripheral Sharing (GCS1924) Review

DisplayPort KVMs need a little more refinement. This is a pretty flimsy device with cheap cables that works ok, but has problems. My problems: the kvm monitor disappears when switching computers (meaning that your desktop will redraw to the remaining display(s) on each computer, and occasionally the computer won't re-recognize the monitor correctly); occasional video glitches; one of the mini-dp cables was bad. Disappointed in iogear for putting out a less than perfect product, as their DVI KVMs have been stellar. IOGEAR support says that no single-monitor displayport KVM is in the works, so unfortunately it doesn't appear that things will be getting better soon. So far I've had better luck with the cheaper startech displayport KVM.

Update (1/9/13): After further investigation, it appears there are no DisplayPort KVMs that support display emulation (making a computer think the monitor is still there when the kvm has switched to another computer) due to the complexities of the DisplayPort standard. IOGear has updated the device description on their site to remove the mention of this feature. If you need to quickly switch between computers you will want to stick with DVI KVMs for now.

Elmo MP-350 BOXi Mobile Projector Review

The Elmo name is well-known to teachers and attorneys, and has earned its respect over the years. The Boxi is a worthy addition to the Elmo lineup.

I met the company president in person at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas in January 2013 when the Boxi was first shown in the U.S. He is a very dignified gentlemen from Japan.

I was looking for a product exactly like this - a projector for a small to mid-size conference room. Since CES, I have used the Boxi almost daily for several months, and offer the following report.

1. My conference room has a 3' by 4' whiteboard. I project on the whiteboard. I turn off the lights in the conference room, and the Boxi gives enough light for comfortable work.

2. I have an interior window into the conference room with no shade/screen, and I achieve full visibility for client presentations by simply turning off the lights in the conference room.

3. In other words, plenty of lumens for office use.

4. Very small footprint. Very low noise.

5. Best of all, almost no heat.

6. I connect the Boxi to my data source with an HDMI cable. I did not have good success with the Boxi app for iPad, however, the app is unnecessary. With an HDMI cable, you will have complete operating control and functionality via your source unit.

7. Which is to say, set the display percentage, etc., on the machine that provides your images, be it a laptop or an iPad. (I use both.)

8. When I use the laptop, I set the Boxi about 4' back from the white board. When I use the iPad, I set the Boxi about 2' back from the white board. You have to experiment a little to achieve optimal results.

9. Here comes a big tip. If you want to connect to an iPad, you need to purchase the HDMI-to-9-pin convertor from Apple. Costs about $35. Works perfectly.

10. Here comes another tip. Use Dropbox to move files from your computer to your iPad. I pull pdfs into my Dropbox account on my computer (Dropbox is free) and they wirelessly sync to my iPad. Assuming you have a WiFi connection, documents can be scanned and moved to your iPad invisibly right during a meeting. Client gives me a document, we scan to pdf, and upload to Dropbox. I can be showing the document on the screen in about the time it takes to scan it.

Conclusion - Excellent product. Excellent company.

Ergotron DS100 Triple-Monitor Desk Stand Review

I have used this monitor stand for over a year now and found it to do the job it was designed for very well. One thing that Amazon specs do not tell you is that the stand is actually designed to only accommodate LCD monitors whose outside width is 20" (51 cm) or less according to the manufacture.

Toshiba 75008204 / Y67-LMP / 75007091 Factory Original Replacement Lamp Review

I should have listened to the other reviewers when they said they received this lamp which promptly burnt out on them. That's what mine just did. I overnighted it and installed on October 1st, 2011 and it burnt out December 6th, 2011. What a rip off - and Amazon should investigate this as it seems to happen a lot. Now I'm stuck since I paid $140.00 for something that didn't last but a few months. I would strongly suggest that you do not buy this replacement lamp from Lamp Monsters or any of the other places listed on Amazon. You get what you pay for and this was a piece of junk. And by the way, I don't think this is a factory original replacement lamp either as several reviewers mentioned - there was not a single mark on the lamp that said it was Toshiba.

ConnectPRO 4-Port DVI KVM Switch UD-14+KIT1F Review

Overall the quality of the build was pretty good but it just never worked right for me.

The good:
- Decent build quality.
- Worked well with my keyboard (Ducky 9008S2).
- Multiple modes you can select for different hardware (detection of monitor signal and peripherals).
- Customer service was responsive.

The bad:
- Did not work properly with the monitors I had.
- Would occasionally get into a state where I had to reset it.
- Expensive.
- Customer service had no solution to my problems.

I use a mixture of mac and windows environments.

I use a monitor/TV via a DVI-D -> HDMI cable/adapter. Whenever I swapped to a different pc (mac or windows), those machines that were not in focus would sometimes lose the monitor information. This would result in either a "no signal" which could be fixed by turning the monitor off and then back on or the windows would be resized to fit a much smaller/default resolution (resulting in having to reposition everything). Sometimes when this occurred, the KVM would become unresponsive and have to be reset.

Customer service worked with me to help resolve the problem. Ultimately their proposed solution was to buy one of their HDMI dongles that would contain the monitor information (placed between my TV and KVM). I just wasn't willing to invest another $60-$80 to see if it worked when that was one of the primary purposes of the KVM. My confidence was low. They also suggested I try a smaller length HDMI cable (I had a 15ft and tried it with a 3ft and 6ft cables and had the same problem.)

It worked well with my keyboard so I am disappointed it went back into the box. I'm not sure if I got a bad unit, just won't work properly with DVI-D -> HDMI, or whether it's flawed in some way.

I'm back using my old IOGear KVM. It has it's problems with my keyboard but lets me get my work done.
